Ben is writing a Christmas card to Xanthe to try to save their relationship but Susan says it sounds like a postcard. He laments how bad he is at this and wishes Frankston wasn't so far away.

SUSAN: You do know Frankston's only an hour on the train?
BEN: Really? Why does everyone speak about it as though it's another country?
SUSAN: You could go down there just for the day.
BEN: Really? Are you sure that's safe?
SUSAN: It's suburban Melbourne. It's not Gotham City!

Susan persuades him to go as Christmas is the perfect time for romantic gestures. He wonders if he should take his guitar but Susan says that's what Karl would do so he decides against it!

Train Stations
Ben gets on the train and arrives in Frankston.

Canning House, Frankston
Sheila is trying to get Gary to wear his dad's Christmas shirt when Ben arrives at the house. Kylie, wearing a mini skirt and crop top, says "Vampire Academy" is here but the others are oblivious. Kylie says she will call him Dimitri. A manic Xanthe appears and tells Ben she doesn't have time to talk to him right now because she's cooking a family lunch for Uncle Keith who has been away for a while. The smoke alarm goes off and Xanthe runs to save the Pop Tarts!

BEN: I'm guessing you're not a Canning then?
KYLIE: How come?
BEN: Well you can't have a Kyle AND a Kylie!
KYLIE: How come?

They go into the kitchen where Sheila has finally got Gary into the shirt. Gary asks Ben if he's staying for lunch and Kylie tells him not to worry because they're not having garlic not that she minds. The smoke alarm goes off again and Xanthe remembers the Pop Tarts again. "Uncle Keith" leaves the room and Gary shouts and runs after him. Ben looks bewildered.

Canning House, Frankston
Sheila wonders where Dane and Harley have got to as she only sent them to get a Vienetta. Gary has had a text from Dane to say Harley went the five finger discount and the ice cream melted in his jacket. Xanthe doesn't want to watch CSI Miami but it's Uncle Keith's favourite; he didn't get to watch it where he's been.

Kylie strokes Ben's hair and says he wouldn't get to the beach much; he'd probably burst into flames.

XANTHE: Get your hands off him.
KYLIE: Or what?
XANTHE: Or I'll tell everyone what your tat means.
BEN: What tat?
KYLIE: Want me to show you?
XANTHE: No, he doesn't!BEN: Look, I might get my cutlery. I wouldn't want to eat like a savage

Back yard
Dane and Harley have sent a picture of the Christmas tree they're building out of shopping trolleys in the Woolies car park. Sheila is disappointed they'll miss the annual wheelbarrow race. She tells the others to pair up.

SHEILA: Oh no, Keith, you can't come with me. I've never forgiven you for face- planting Frank on the day he died!BEN: Hey, I've just realised your grandad is Frank from Frankston!
XANTHE: Yeah, as if I hadn't figured that out already!

Keith gets the joke a second later and thinks it's hilarious (speaking for the first time). Sheila tells Xanthe she can come with her, and Kylie tells Dimitri it looks like it's the two of them together.

BEN: Why does she keep calling me a vampire?
XANTHE: I prefer you in colour.
KIETH: Pastels, mate.

Ben looks confused, as are the rest of us.

Back yard
Sheila explains the wheelbarrow race rules. The winners get the biggest slice of Vienetta if it ever arrives.

KEITH: And? And?
GARY: And they get to etch their name into the wall of the memorial asbestos shed.

Ben gets down on the grass and Kylie says it's a good view. Xanthe tells her to stop looking.

KYLIE: What do you care? You're over him aren't you?
XANTHE: No!
BEN: Really?

Xanthe says she just doesn't want her dating anyone she's dated. Kylie says use 'em or lose 'em, and she knows what she'd use Ben for. Xanthe pushes her and they start fighting. Keith restrains Ben.

KEITH: No, no, no, no, mate. Just enjoy the show.
BEN: Aren't you related to them?
KEITH: No but don't tell them, yeah?

Sheila and Gary break up the fight.

SHEILA: Kylie, you have to learn from Naomi's mistakes and you can't go hitting on men that are already taken. Or worse still ruthless one- legged tycoons!
XANTHE: Yeah, tell her Gran!
SHEILA: Oh, and you can learn from your father's mistakes and know that socking someone in the mouth gets you nowhere but back in jail.
GARY: Oh, says the lady who slapped Alison Gore!

Kylie pulls Xanthe's hair and Ben yells at them all to stop.

BEN: Can't you all just get along for five minutes? What is wrong with you?
SHEILA: We Cannings come from a long line of pioneering convicts who are used to expressing their feelings!

Ben says they're supposed to be having a party for someone who has just got out of jail. Keith asks who said that and Ben says he's been away for a while. Keith reveals he was in Army reserve training! Ben asks Xanthe if they can get away but Xanthe says he's just dissed her whole family and may as well leave. They all look sad for two seconds until a voice off- screen asks who wants Vienetta.

Susan is wrapping presents when Ben arrives home.

BEN: You know when you upset a bee and before you know it you've got heaps trying to sting you?
SUSAN: I guess.
BEN: The Cannings don't stop once they've stung you. They just keep going and going and going and going.
SUSAN: Like wasps not bees never mind!

Ben gets a message on his phone from Xanthe: "Happy Christmas xx". Susan thinks things aren't as bad as Ben thinks.
